A very unusual and striking model of a lion.Very naive modelling with a strong presence.A true piece of English folk art.The body is of a rather brick type composition which has acquired a wonderful patination. I have dated the lion circa 1750/85 period.

Crisp relief moulded with figures of The Parson,The Clerk and The Sexton who are well decorated by the hand painter.The pitcher has a circular plinth base which is an unusual feature. Re;Griselda Lewis Book page which illustrates similar examples of the jug which have been attributed as Delftfield Glasow,Bovey Tracey Devon,and Staffordshire.
