Antique Staffordshire pottery figure probably Ceres early 19th century England

Reference: 8302

Dated: 1810 to 1820 Staffordshire England

A Staffordshire pottery pearlware rare flat modeled figure thought to be Ceres who is seated on an oblong base by a sheaf of corn. The relief detail is exceptionally dynamic with well-applied quality enamels. Flat modeled pieces give a sharp dimensional quality which is very striking. The press molded technique allows for well-defined detail as in this figure with the hair, folds in the dress and sheaf of corn.
