English delftware tiles by Sadler Liverpool delft works 18th century

Three Liverpool pottery delftware tiles with overglaze prints by John Sadler. Sadler a printer in Liverpool developed the technique in 1755 using wood blocks which he later refined using engraved copper plates. Only single colour prints were possible and there are known to be over 60 different designs. Sadler also devised a process for printing onto creamware and this technique was rigorously adopted by Josiah Wedgwood.
The three tiles can be sold individually.

Medium: delftware pottery earthenware ceramic print

Current Condition Some fritting to glaze at edge and manganese example with feint hairline.

Provenance: Retain paper label on reverse N and R Jacobs.
