English pottery Whieldon type oval dish made in the mid 18th century period Staffordshire

Dated: 1765 Staffordshire England

An oval-shaped pottery dish probably the work of Thomas Whieldon Staffordshire with relief molded decorations the center panel with a square diaper pattern. The elaborate border features acorns, fruit, and leaves. The glaze is exceptional, and the crisp modeling is of the best quality — a rare example from the early pioneering days of the Staffordshire potters.

Dimensions: 12.00 inch wide 1.00 inch high 10.00 inch deep

Medium: pottery earthenware ceramic

Current Condition Unrestored with only two minor chips at the rim which do need restoration.

Provenance: Private collection of A Lord.

Literature: A similar dish is illustrated on page 120 figure reference 272 in The Earle Collection of Early English Pottery.
