Large English pottery pearlware pitcher with figures of a youth and his dog the reverse with birds in trees in chinoserie style.
Dated: c. 1800 to c. 1815 Staffordshire English
A rare Staffordshire pottery pitcher exceptionally well decorated. One side shows a standing figure of a youth with a top hat walking with his dog in an English rural landscape the decoration is typical English style of the late 18th/early 19th century period. The other image is a Chinese influenced picture wonderfully and delicately rendered of birds in nests in a branches with delicate berries and leaves. The border decoration is in the Italian style. The pitcher captures these artistic styles in an inimitable way.A highly decorative piece which can be displayed in a variety of ways each with a compelling charm.
