Red earthenware watering pot London England 16th century

Dated: 1550 to 1600 London England UK

A rare early robust rustic red earthenware watering pot with a splashed green-yellow glaze. This utility form has been in use since the middle ages. Several of these watering pots have been found in London and it is thought that they were made locally in the city ( London Museum). It is generally thought that they were used to dampen dust and dirt on a rush or straw-lined floor.

Dimensions: 11.00 inch wide 12.50 inch high 9.00 inch deep

Medium: earthenware pottery ceramic glaze

Current Condition Restored sprinkler.
