Staffordshire pottery pearlware figure of a Parrot

Dated: c. 1785 to c. 1800 Staffordshire

A rare early example of a Staffordshire pearlware pottery figure of a parrot.
The figure is in wonderful condition with well defined modelling and strong and vibrant colours.
It is and early eaxample of a Staffordshire figure in pearlware and would date from the last quarter of the 18th century.
There is debate surrounding the attribution of these figures to the type of bird they represent. A hawk, a pigeon or a parrot? My view is that they are more likely to be parrots modelled from similar earlier Chinese porcelain figures.The Staffordshire copies were renowned for copying from early porcelain figures which they could replicate in the cheaper pottery eartheware body.
