Staffordshire stoneware redware "Chinese" moulded hexagonal teapot mid 18th century England

Reference: 7997

Dated: c. 1765 Staffordshire England

Staffordshire stoneware redware "Chinese" moulded hexagonal teapot mid 18th century England. The hexagonal shape with the diapered ground of squared off scrolls is most likely inspired from Chinese Yixing stoneware which dates back to the 15th century. The teapot is a fine and rare example and is probably the work of Whieldon, Wedgwood or Greatbach in the mid 18th century.
SHards have been located of the rose panel at the Greatbach site but there is doubt about providing a definitive attribution.
