A good slipware Devon pottery scraffito decorated harvest or cider pitcher with a wonderful toffee coloured glaze. The jug is decorated with flowers, a smokers pipe, an ale glass and a pitcher of frothing ale.Also two verses relating to "Success to the farmer" and in a heart motif "Long may we be Happy". The bold inscription on the front reads JAMES CAN JUG SEPTEMBER 3RD 1845. The jug is in exceptional condition with no restoration.
