An early Donyatt pottery fuddling cup, also known as a Jolly Boys Cup, dating to the first half of the 18th century.
The vessel is formed from three conjoined cups, each with distinctive twisted handles, creating an ingenious drinking puzzle. Made from reddish earthenware, it is coated in a cream-colored slip beneath a rich honey-colored glaze, with attractive green oxide splash decoration characteristic of the period.
Fuddling cups were traditionally associated with taverns and festive gatherings, where they were used in a drinking game. This is an appealing and early example of the distinctive pottery produced at Donyatt,
