This impressive English pottery Prattware figure of a lion is expressively modeled standing on a base with ochre and blue decoration. The paw rests on a sphere also in ochre with brown spots inspired by the Medici lions. (The Medici lions are a pair of marble sculptures of lions: Roman, dating to the 2nd century AD, and the other a 16th-century pendant. Since 1789 they have been displayed at the Loggia Dei Lanzi in Florence).

Dimensions: 9.75 inches high 12.75 inches long

Current Condition: Restored at the tongue, teeth, and hairline at the corner of the base, otherwise in very good condition.
