A pair of Staffordshire pottery pipe smoking black and white underglaze decorated dogs seated on turquoise rococo-shaped bases. The dogs are modeled with two separate legs and curling tails, and the heads and coats are expressively decorated. The pair are among the rarest from the Staffordshire Potteries in the mid-19th century. The pipes are unrestored, a rare event with pipe smokers. The pair is inspired by the Edwin Landseer painting A"Quiet Pipe’,c.1829, which was much loved by Queen Victoria.    

Dimensions: 11 inches high

Current Condition: Good condition with no restoration and only minor signs of historical wear in accord with age.
