A " Littler's or Aaron's blue" saltglaze teapot with a crab stock handle and spout stands on three lion's paw feet. William Littler and Aaron Wedgwood invented the technique of fusing cobalt blue with saltglaze in their mid-18th-century joint venture at Brownhills. The diminutive scale of this rare teapot indicates the expense of tea, the new fashion among the upper classes in the mid-18th century. The blue is sublime on this gem of a pot.
