This pottery pearlware bocage type figure known as " Abraham Stop" shows Abraham with his son Isaac who he is about to slay. An angel stopped Abraham and replaced his son with a ram, which was the last of the ten trials of Abraham here, exemplifying obedience. The subject from the Old Testament was popular in the early 19th century, and this version is one of the best quality and rarest. The Staffordshire potters gave much respect to religious-related figures with extra attention to details and quality of their enamel painting.

Current Condition: Original firing detail and the dagger restored.
