A very rare antique English pottery delftware flower vase decorated in blue with insects and flowers. This vase is a very rare form in delft earthenware, there are three nozzles and three alternating twisted spurs around the fluted rim.Similar shards have been excavated at the Brislington pottery site in Bristol and in London leading to a possible attribution to the Southwark Pottery (Pickleherring or Montague Close). Interestingly fragments of a similar flower vase have also been found at Jamestown Island Virginia and the Newington Plantation in North Carolina.

Dimensions: 7 inches high

Current Condition: Minor restoration to rim chips.

Literature: Delftware in the Fitzwilliam Museum by Michael Archer page reference 302 titled Flower Vases. There is also references in Archer's earlier Book titled Delftware Tin glazed earthenware of the British Isles page 364 The book British Delft at Williamsburg by John.C.Austin features a similar piece flower container on page 250 ref. figures 599/601
