English delftware blue dash border Royal King William Equestrian Charger 17th century

This English delftware pottery Royalty charger is painted with an equestrian image of King William 111 amongst stylized trees and stipe ground shown in blue, manganese, ochre, turquoise and black. The image is inscribed W R and set within a blue dash and ochre rim. The back of the charger is tin glazed. NOTE; Michael Archer suggested the inspiration of the painting is derived from a print of King Charles 1st entering Edinburgh in 1641. (The design is known on a dish in the Bristol Museum with the initials "CR").

Current Condition: Ancient hair-line stabilized.

Provenance: Previously with Jonathan Horne ( retains his label) and the Slater Collection
