English delftware blue dash charger with equestrian perhaps Thomas Fairfax circa 1680

This exceptionally rare English delftware blue dash border charger in decorated in blue, ochre and turquoise with am image of a mounted miliary figure riding a white horse. The rider is thought to be General Fairfax Lord General of the New Model Army. His steed is shown galloping over a striped colorful mound in between stylized trees. The reverse is lead glazed. Fairfax was known as Black Tom and lived a complex and ambiguous relationship with Cromwell, King Charles 1 and later helping to restore the monarchy urging King Charles 11 to claim the throne. NOTE; The woodcut engraved by William Marshall after the portrait by Edward Bowers provides a credible support to the attribution of His Excellence Sir Thomas Fairfax.

Current Condition: Remarkable condition with two rim chips.
