This impressive pearlware glazed figure, made at the Staffordshire Potteries in the early 19th century, represents a lion with a paw resting on a sphere while standing on a faux marble base. The enamel colors, decoration, and modeling are exceptionally well executed. Lions are England's national symbol and were a popular subject, although the paw resting on a ball feature is thought to be inspired by the Lions at the Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence.

Dimensions: 7.75 inches high, 11 inches wide

Current Condition: In good condition, a small chip at the tip of the outstretched tongue has been restored.
