A well modelled and colored antique Staffordshire pottery figure of Wellington with the Garter Star. Wellington is modelled leaning against a canon with a flag by his side. The expressive figure is unusually modeled with a faux marble square base and with three cannon balls under the flag. The figure was modelled by Pierre Stephan who mainly worked for the Derby Factory. Myrna Schkolne the author of the Book Staffordshire Figures 1810-35 records a similar figure at the Stoke on Trent Museum in Staffordshire England which was impressed WELLINGTON. NOTE;The Duke was a Military hero in Great Britain especially after his victory over the French at Waterloo. The modeler of this figure Pierre Stephan produced other notable British heroic figures such as Rodney and Nelson.

Dimensions: 12.75 inches high

Current Condition: Restored right hand, tip of scabbard, two minor chips on base and the Sabre replaced.

Literature: Page 106 Volume 2 Staffordshire Figures 1780-1840 by Myrna Schkolne illustrates an identical model located in the Victoria and Albert Museum London.
